Theemployermaybequitecontenttoo.Perhapshehashadthebestofthatmansthinking;anewpersonmaybringinfreshideas,improvedskills,ornewabilities.Then,too,anewcomerwillprobablystartatalowersalaryforhewillhavenoseniority.Hoppingissoreadilyacceptedhere,infact,thatagoodmanmaybouncebackandforthamongtwoorthreecorporations,beingwelcomedbacktohisoriginalcompanymorethanoncethroughhiscareer,eachtimeaatadifferentlevel.

3.ResidentsGoOverseastoSeekTheirFortunes

ShanghaihasbecomeafavouriteinvestmentspotwithforeignerseagertogetafinancialfootholdinChina.

Andwiththedevelopmentofitsexport-orientedeconomy,thecitylookssettobecomeaninternationaltradeandfinancialcenteronthewestbankofthePacificOcean.

ButmanyShanghaipeoplearenotcontentsimplytositandwaitfortheforeignerstocometothem-theywanttogoabroadthemselvestotrytheirluck.

TheShanghainesehaveareputationforbeingabletofindworktheworldover.BeforethefoundingofNewChinain1949mhundredsofthousandsofthemweretradingthroughouttheworld.

Inthe1950sand1960swhenthecountrywaspursuingitscloseddoorpolicy,hundredsoffactories,researchinstitutesanduniversitiesinvolvingmorethanImillionpeople-weremovedfromShanghaiintotheinlandareastosupportthenationssocialistconstruction.Now,peoplewithShanghaiaccentscanbefoundalloverthecountry.
